Ylva Pihlström
Professor at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of New Mexico. Being a radio astronomer, my favorite subjects are the Galactic Center, astrophysical masers, but also starburst galaxies and Active Galactic Nuclei. I use radio interferometery observing techniques, including Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI). I also participate in work with the Long Wavelength Array (LWA).
- Current research students:
- Graduate student Brandon Medina is analyzing infrared spectral energy distributions of AGB stars in the BAaDE sample.
- Graduate student Rajorshi Bhattacharya is improving extinction estimates to individual AGB stars throughout the Galaxy using 2MASS and MSX data.
- Underaduate student Jason Weisgerber is determining the stellar phase of SiO maser observations utilizing Gaia and ZTF period studies.
- Underaduate student Stephanie Hansen is focusing on expanding the infrared database for exploring correlations between IR and SiO properties in evolved stars.
- Undergraduate student Damen Reyes is using the ALMA archive to determine the presence of CO lines in our AGB sample.
