Exciting images such as the one shown here have fueled the activity
behind the planning and creation of an array specifically designed
to map celestial objects at low frequencies (between 10MHz and
100MHz).
The area being promoted and supported in this effort is in the southwest
United States, in the state of New Mexico.
A consortium of university and research entities has taken on the
task of working to meet scientific and political goals in order to
see an array constructed in this area.
The Southwest Consortium counts among its members such esteemed research
organizations as Los Alamos National Laboratories, the University
of New Mexico, and the University of Texas at Austin.
It is with this group that the Naval Research Labs are pooling their
considerable research and resources in an effort to see an LWA installation
constructed in the USA.
